How To Use Trello To Create an Online Course

In this blog post I am going to teach you how to use Trello to create an online course. If you have ever wondered how to plan your course in Trello, this post is for you.

How To Use Trello To Create an Online Course

Trello is a great project management tool that I use for many things. This includes planning and building an online course. Trello is flexible and easy to use.

You can use it during the planning phase of your online course all the way through the launch of your course.

Trello is a web-based organizational tool that can help you keep track of your tasks and deadlines.

It also includes features for project management, like setting due dates and assigning cards to different team members. This will come in handy if you have a team of people working on your online course.

Trello Features I Use The Most

When it comes to creating your online course in Trello, there are a few features I use more than others. Here are my two favorites.

Using Checklists In Trello

Checklists are at the top of my list. Everything you do has a process and an order in which that process needs to be done.

Example: Editing the video has to come after recording the video. Writing the script for each video has to come before both of these.

Making checklists of all the steps you need to take with each lesson will keep you from missing a step. These checklists can then be copied to each lesson.

Using The Calendar In Trello

When you are creating an online course, you probably already have a launch date in mind. At least you should.

Once you do, you can use the calendar to start scheduling start and due dates on everything. If you have Trello set up right to start, you will get alerts when you are coming up on due dates.

You will want to do this for both content creation and your marketing strategy. These are probably going to blend together, and you want to make sure you are getting everything done on time to meet the deadline.

Trello Templates For Your Online Course

Using The Trello Template Feature

In Trello, you can create base templates for cards. This will come in handy when you are creating your lessons. You do this at the card level.

Once you create a card and all the checklists for lesson one, you can then use it as a template for all the following lessons. This will save you a ton of time.

Speaking of templates, I created several types of boards for online courses depending on the types of online course you are creating.

Trello Templates For Your Online Course

Depending on what type of online course you are building, you might need to set your Trello board up a bit different. You may even need more than one board.

This could be a high level view of the entire course process from idea to launch.

With a team working on your online course, you may need it set up into columns like…

  • Research
  • Working On
  • Review
  • Ready For Upload

It just depends on the size of the course and the size of your team.
